Skilling India’s youth for overseas workforce demand: Project TEJAS launched
NSDC International Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of NSDC, has launched project TEJAS (Training For Emirates Jobs and Skills) to provide necessary skills as per global standards, ensuring certified workers get an opportunity to work in United Arab Emirates (UAE). TEJAS is focused to train, certify and place 10,000 Indian workers in UAE in its first year by partnering with some of the leading employers such as EFS, Dulsco, TASC, Lulu Finance and more, in the region. Launched in December, the project has sent 25 workers to Dubai. The workers will be trained in in-demand job roles such as, electrician, plumber, welder, car driver, IT Professionals, retail service assistants and more.
It is expected that the project will be scaled to place one lakh Indian workers across the GCC region in the next five years. The initiative will provide these workers with essential skills and certification as per global norms. The International Workforce Mobility (IWM) market opportunity for India is estimated to be 3.6 million in the next 5 years. Of this 2.6 million Indians can be potentially placed in the GCC countries across sectors and the remaining in Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, Far East, Russia, and Malaysia.
Each element of TEJAS program has been designed to ensure that only skilled and certified workers are placed in UAE. The programme aims to converge with existing skill development programs and leverage training infrastructure of India International Skill Centre (IISC), Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs), Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Skill Training Institutes (private/public) operating under Central and State Governments to ensure sourcing and supply of potential candidates. The program aims to be aspirational and will ensure that best of talent from the network of skill development institutions is part of this opportunity.
